AutoLit: Website Technology
While on our website you may encounter several file formats
that require
additional
free software
to be installed
on your computer
to see or
read specific
content.
We use Macromedia
Flash™ to
present animated
or interactive
content and
Adobe Acrobat™
to produce
formatted
documents
for downloading.
Most newer
computer
systems already
have the
reader and
plugin software
loaded and
available
for use with
these technologies.
If you computer
does not
have
Flash or
the Acrobat
reader software,
they can
both be downloaded
quickly at
no cost from
the links
below.
If you encounter any problems on our site or in our online
store, please
let us know
by using
our WebTech
Contact Form.
This form
is only for
technical
website issues
and the web
developers
cannot address
product related
questions
(at least
you will
be better off if they
don't).
We are also
happy to
hear from
you with
any suggestions
or comments
regarding
our website.
Please use
our General
Contact
Form for all product
and order
related inquiries!
Browser and Platform Compatability
We test our site on the most popular platforms, Windows and
Macintosh,
and test
using current
versions
of the most
popular browsers
for both
platforms.
We cannot
test all
of the possible
customizations
that one
might make
to their
computer
but if you
think you
have found
a bug in
our work,
we do want
to know.
Please use
the WebTech
form to provide
us with the
details.
Remember
that we have
to first
duplicate
the problem
so we need
to know where
it is on
the site
and some
details about
your system.
Gripes and Our Limitations
We know that having images of all of the items in our online
store is
most desired
by our customers
and are working
on ways to
make this
possible
and cost
effective.
It involves
much more
than technology
issues which
are not that
complicated
(aside from
just the
huge quantity
of images).
Our inventory changes daily and we cannot always update
the listings
in the online
store fast
enough. This
is why we
do not
charge your
credit card
for an online
order until
we know exactly
what is available
and the order
is ready
to ship.
We then charge
your order
for only
what is actually
being shipped
and your receipt
in the package
will show
your total
charge.
We are working on ways to improve on both of these areas
but we make
every effort
to maintain
high overall
performance
for our customers
and hope
you will be understanding
if you find
us not yet
perfect.
Some Things Just Take a While
We make every effort to keep our site running a quickly as
possible
and hold
our pages
to a moderate
size.
Our
online
store runs using a database that contains well over 100,000
entries.
When
you
search
or browse the
store
the database
has to
process quite a bit
of information
to fill
your request and
there
are likely many
other
people doing the
same.
Please be patient,
especially
if you
are using a dial-up
connection
and avoid
clicking
on submit
buttons
multiple times if
the browser
shows
that it is working
on your
initial request.
It may
just send another
request
when the page
loads
and take that
much
longer!
Be sure to check out the Help pages that are provided from
links in
our Online
Store. You
may find
some tips
on Searching
and Browsing
the online
store to
be helpful.
When and Why we use Pop-Up Windows
We recognize that there has
been
growing
discontent
with the
use of the
pop-up window
on the World
Wide Web.
The pop-up
window itself
and the browser's
ability to
create a
new window
are not
really the
problem.
It is the
way in which
many websites
use additional
windows that
get most
people very
riled up,
myself included.
Advertisements
are placed in separate windows and
programmed
to open when
a site's
main window
opens or
when a particular
action (or
lack of action)
is taken
by the visitor.
We understand
that this
form of marketing
is bothering
the heck
out of Internet
users and
we don't
do it!
However,
when
used properly,
the pop-window
is a very effective design tool that can be helpful to the
site visitor. When you are
reading
the content
on a particular
web page and some form of help would be
useful, say
the definition of a term or the ability to get contact
information,
without moving to and loading a completely
new page
... this
is a good job for a small pop-up window. This is how
we use pop-windows
on the AutoLit website.
If
you have
purchased
software
to block
pop-up windows,
it should
not affect
windows that
originate
from the
same domain
as the primary
window. But
if your software
does keep
our windows
from opening,
first check
the preferences
for your
software
to see if
it will allow
windows from
the same
domain as
the primary
window (not
an off-site
advertiser).
If you still
have a problem,
please let
us know the
details by
using our
WebTech form. |
